WNBA Analyst Throws Reality Check at Caitlin Clark on Path to Reaching Her Full Potential

Caitlin Clark is no stranger to controversy. The Indiana Fever guard found herself at the center of it again during Saturday’s game against the Portland Fire, where she was involved in a heated exchange with head coach Stephanie White.

Criticism has ramped up since then regarding Clark’s behavior, from fans to former players and more. The latest is WNBA analyst Ros Gold-Onwude, who took direct aim at the 24-year-old, suggesting that she needs to take accountability in order to succeed.

“I think Caitlin Clark has the potential to be a really great player in this league. I don’t think she will reach her full potential until she’s willing and able to take more accountability and also exercise more self-control on the court,” Gold-Onwude said in the latest episode of Just Women’s Sports.

While Clark’s attitude has stemmed from her being competitive, the reality is that they have become a pattern, and Gold-Onwude believes the need now for her is to control her emotions to unlock her game to the next level.

“I think if she can do that and have more control of her emotions on the court, she’ll unlock that next level, not only for herself, but for her team, because she does have that potential,” she added.

It’s been an up and down start to Caitlin Clark’s third year, but it’s all about patience when it comes to her development. From the moment the Fever drafted Clark No. 1 overall in 2024, nobody wanted her to have more success than the Fever and their fan base. The organization did what it thought it needed to do to surround Clark and the core with the talent that would help them win a championship.

And clearly, the Fever trending in that direction through a constant stream of secondary talent to take pressure off Clark. But two things can be true, she’s one of the most effective players on the Fever, and she sometimes fails to control her emotions, which is what you get when you’re a competitor. Having said all that, the former Iowa star still has plenty of time to adapt and mature and, eventually, turn up the accountability on her end. Until then, criticism will continue to come her way.

Caitlin Clark Shakes Off Rust in Win Over Atlanta Dream

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever looked like themselves again in their 83-71 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday night. Going into this matchup, the Fever were coming off back-to-back road losses to the Golden State Valkyries and Portland Fire.

And Clark just didn’t look like herself and seemed to be struggling in terms of her confidence while dealing with foul trouble. However, the 24-year-old bounced back in a big way on Thursday night. She recorded 17 points, eight assists and seven rebounds while going 6-for-17 from the field.

Now it appears Clark and the Fever are just scratching the surface, and she has yet to play at her highest potential. Clark’s reputation as the heartbeat of her team stems from her ability to shoot and create chances. Her blend of talent makes her one of the more unique players in the league, and fans across the country have adored her for it.
