Why is Kate Martin Not Playing in Unrivaled? Closer Look at 3-and-D Specialist’s Continued Absence

Kate Martin played 13 of 14 regular-season games for Breeze BC in Unrivaled this season. However, she has not seen action since the start of the playoffs. She had a healthy DNP on Saturday when her team dominated Rose BC 69-50 to dethrone the former champs.

In the first half of Monday’s semifinal showdown against Mist BC, “Money Martin” still hasn’t played.

The 3-and-D specialist’s absence is due to Breeze BC coach Noelle Quinn’s decision, particularly concerning matchups. Against Rose, Quinn didn’t want Chelsea Gray, the newly named MVP, to hunt Martin for mismatches in the post. Martin also gives up size advantage against Kahleah Copper, Gray’s backcourt partner.

Quinn’s decision to have the veteran Courtney Williams and Paige Bueckers get the lion’s share of the minutes went as planned. Gray was limited to 11 points on 5-for-18 shooting while Copper ended with 15 points behind a 6-for-16 clip.

Against Mist BC, which has star guards Allisha Gray and Arike Ogunbowale, Noelle Quinn kept Kate Martin out again. Martin will not likely see action as the teams continue to trade key plays on both ends.

Kate Martin Suffered Nasty Slip Week Before 2026 Unrivaled Playoffs

Kate Martin almost suffered a bizarre injury a week before the 2026 Unrivaled playoffs. Martin slipped on the stairs following her introduction for Breeze BC’s game against Vinyl BC on Feb. 21. As a precaution, the team kept her out of the encounter, which Paige Bueckers and Co. dominated 77-56.

Caitlin Clark’s close friend returned two nights later in Breeze’s 95-70 loss to Mist BC. Martin contributed three points, three rebounds and one assist in nine minutes in her team’s final regular-season game.
