Caitlin Clark is a popular name in the basketball world, and not just in the US. She brought a lot of attention to the WNBA after she was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2024. After her induction, the league witnessed the most-watched season in 24 years and set the record for the highest single-game attendance in 22 years. And now, MLS star Alexandros Katranis detailed Clark’s influence in his home country, Greece.
The MLS’s Real Salt Lake FC defender, Katranis, expressed his appreciation for the Fever guard when asked about an athlete who impacted him the most. He said:
“Clark from the WNBA, I mean, yeah, because especially for us in Greece, like she was the one making the basketball more famous. Everybody was looking, like, what she is about, and everybody was calling her, like, the woman Steph Curry. So, she became more famous in Greece because of her character.”
The 2024 WNBA regular season averaged 1.19 million viewers, a 170% jump from the last season. The season also delivered some of the most-viewed WNBA games ever on ESPN, ABC, and ESPN2. Most of those games featured Clark. The Iowa native is also the leading scorer in the NCAA women’s basketball.
Such high praise from a top athlete in another sport means a lot to Clark and shows the impact she has created, even beyond US borders. The comparison to Steph Curry is not the first time, as the rookie has had divided takes from analysts and fans on this.
The Fever guard led the franchise in points (19.2) and assists (8.4) in her rookie season and won Rookie of the Year honors, but her team exited the playoffs in the first round. However, the last season was not very good for her, as it ended in July after Clark suffered a right groin injury. Even in the off-season, he has recently made her broadcasting debut with a bang.
Caitlin Clark’s broadcasting debut attracts 4.5 million views
Caitlin Clark made her broadcasting debut this NBA season, before the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers marquee game at Madison Square Garden. She was part of an elite panel, including Reggie Miller, Tracy McGrady, and others, and featured in the pre-game events.
As per the latest numbers on February 4, 4.5 million users tuned in for the segment, making it the most-watched game of the season. While the game itself was a highly anticipated cross-conference battle, the Fever guard surely added to fans’ excitement.
The Knicks won that game, 112-100, and have been on a massive 8-game winning streak after a two-overtime thriller win in their last game against the Denver Nuggets. Clark, on the other hand, will return to her broadcasting duties later for the OKC Thunder and the Knicks game.
