White House’s X Handle Shares Video Comparing Donald Trump’s Viral Gesture to Sophie Cunningham’s Pointing Moment

Sophie Cunningham’s finger-pointing ways have gone viral on social media. Now, even the White House is getting in on the action.

On Tuesday, the White House’s X account shared a clip of Cunningham showing off the finger point on her “Show Me Something” podcast, followed by a clip of U.S. President Donald Trump doing some pointing himself during a separate occasion.

Interestingly, Cunningham has long been rumored to be a Trump supporter. During the election year of 2024, back when she was still playing for the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham allegedly shared a Donald Trump Jr. video in which the second-generation businessman had scathing words for Kamala Harris.

This ruffled the feathers of some netizens, but when Cunningham was traded the following year to the Indiana Fever, she gained newfound respect from fans who appreciated how she came to Caitlin Clark’s defense on the court.

During the Fever’s clash against her former team Phoenix on June 22, Clark was whistled for a technical foul after an altercation with Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner. In the aftermath, Cunningham pointed at Bonner and wouldn’t relent, instead following Bonner around the court while still wielding her finger.

This tense moment went on to take a life of its own. All across social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the Cunningham finger-pointing meme spread like wildfire, with netizens referencing wife-husband dynamics and even the Merriam-Webster Dictionary chipping in a humorous entry.

Now, the Trump administration has jumped in on the bandwagon. The White House’s tweet is validation that Cunningham has rocked pop culture to its core once again.

“They Say That They’re the Unfriendliest Group”: Sophie Cunningham Drops Intel on Mercury Organization

On a recent episode of her podcast, Sophie Cunningham appeared to rub salt in the wound by dropping some intel on the Mercury.

“You know what’s funny? I know people in their own organization…nobody likes their team this year. They say that they’re the unfriendliest group. So, we’re not the only ones who feel that way.”

The Mercury may have won their most recent encounter with the Fever, but Cunningham has gained a huge win with her social media presence over the past week.
