Clay Travis Proposes $100M Equity to Caitlin Clark in New League After Cathy Engelbert Vows to Protect Alyssa Thomas

OutKick founder Clay Travis has proposed a $100 million deal to Caitlin Clark after WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert vowed to protect Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury players. Engelbert made the comments on Tuesday after Thomas shared she’s received “death threats” following Wednesday’s incident with Clark.

Thomas was suspended for a game by the WNBA after making illegal contact with the Fever superstar’s neck. The referees didn’t review the incident in real time, but after public outrage, the WNBA did, and punished Thomas for the reckless play. After Engelbert said she’s spoken to the league’s security and the Mercury’s security, Travis took to X to express his dissatisfaction, saying:

“Caitlin Clark needs to leave the WNBA and start her own league. I’m not kidding. I bet I could raise $500 million for her new league in two days. She could take 20% of the league and bank a hundred million in equity, more than she will make in a career in the WNBA.”

Travis was upset that the commissioner didn’t talk about protecting Clark. In a follow-up comment on his tweet, he added:

“The WNBA has made it clear it doesn’t want her, and worse than that, it won’t protect her either. I’m sure there are many women who hate the culture of this league & would love to play elsewhere for more money & bigger crowds. No-brainer decision for her. Great business opportunity.”

The outrage from the media and fans supporting Caitlin Clark erupted as Thomas became the victim in this situation, despite being the one who committed the Flagrant 2 foul, which initially wasn’t even reviewed.

Regardless, it’s not uncommon for league authorities to step in if one of the league’s best players is receiving death threats.

Alyssa Thomas claims even she wasn’t aware of foul on Caitlin Clark until after the game

Alyssa Thomas was upset about the narrative that had spread online following Wednesday’s incident. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Thomas claimed it was a basketball play and nobody, including her, saw it in real time.

“It’s unfortunate that it’s come to this over basketball,” she told reporters. “A lot of this, myself included, didn’t even know the play took place until after the game. And now we’re being painted as thugs, and there’s death threats out there on us. So, it’s really unacceptable. It’s something that needs to change in this league and I’m just really sick and tired of it.”

The foul drama between Caitlin Clark and Alyssa Thomas remains the most talked-about incident in the media and among fans. The WNBA will hope to put an end to these conversations soon, given the outrage from both sides.

It couldn’t have been more taxing for Clark and Thomas after hearing their names in the news cycle every minute. Clark is also injured after a couple of hard fouls in Wednesday’s contest and is trying to recover in time for the Fever’s 2025 playoffs semi-final rematch with the Las Vegas Aces on Jul. 5.
