Caitlin Clark has been a sensation ever since she made her college debut. She broke numerous records in college basketball and did the same when Fever drafted her as the first pick. Now she has overtaken one of the greatest players in WNBA history in one stat.
Clark surpassed Wilson for most points in the first 70 games of an WNBA career. She has scored 1,343 points so far while at the same stage, Wilson had 1,250. While this stat is impressive, fans did not like Clark being compared to a player as successful as Wilson.
This season, Wilson and Clark might eventually go head-to-head in the MVP race. As of now, Wilson leads the rankings while Clark stands third. The Aces star has averaged 25.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists. On the other hand, the Fever star has averaged 21.2 points, 4 rebounds and 8.2 assists.
WNBA legend Lisa Leslie heaps massive praise on A’ja Wilson
Lisa Leslie appeared on CBS Sports WNBA segment on June 29. She talked about Wilson’s dominance for the Aces in the past few years.
“She scores 69% of Aces’ points in the paint. And I’m talking about over the last five years. This woman in the paint gets it done. And it’s a plethora of moves the left hand over the shoulder, you know she can go right, you know it’s coming with the step back. The jumpers are on point, whether it’s the mid-range or getting to the paint,” Leslie said.
Leslie said that Wilson deserves all the plaudits and is truly the face of the WNBA.
