While the trio of Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Sophie Cunningham have made significant contributions to the Indiana Fever this season, Lexie Hull appears to have taken a step back. Hull’s scoring and 3-point shooting are down from last year, and her minutes have been slashed despite starting 23 of the Fever’s 26 games.
One netizen pointed out how Hull’s effectiveness on the defensive end has also taken a hit. In response, analyst Jason Whitlock pinned the blame on Hull’s coach rather than the Fever guard herself.
“You realize Stephanie White snatched her soul? Lexie is the player who has suffered the most in White’s system. White has abused Hull, treated her like a Vanderbilt player.”
Though Whitlock didn’t add further context to his “Vanderbilt player” remark, it should be noted that the Fever’s 2026 second-round draft pick Justine Pissott played for the Commodores. The Fever, however, opted not to match the offer sheet put forward by the Las Vegas Aces earlier this month. Pissott went on to have a scintillating debut with the Aces, putting up 19 points on 5-for-6 shooting from deep.
Hull, on the other hand, has not been as prominent as she was last year, when her outside shooting and hustle on the defensive end were thrust in the limelight amidst a spate of injuries on the Fever roster.
While Whitlock has slammed White for the dip in Hull’s performance, the Fever coach does have a lot of mouths to feed in her backcourt, with Mitchell and Clark needing to stay prolific, Cunningham torching the nets, Raven Johnson requiring some reps, and the likes of Bree Hall and Ty Harris wanting to stay in the rotation.
From scoring 7.2 points in 27 minutes of action per game last year, Hull has dipped to 5.9 ppg in 19.9 mpg. She’ll have to do more in order to stay longer on the court.
Indianapolis Indians Set to Host “Lexie Hull Night” as Fever Guard Gets Invited to Throw First Pitch
Still, Lexie Hull remains beloved in the state of Indiana. Just last week, the Indianapolis Indians (a minor league baseball team) announced that they would be hosting “Lexie Hull Night” on Aug. 27.
As reported by Josh Bode of local news outlet WISH-TV, Hull will be signing autographs and throwing out the first pitch on this occasion at Victory Field.
