Caitlin Clark Shrugs Off Looming 1 Game Suspension Risk After Picking Up Sixth Technical Foul On Fever

Caitlin Clark received her sixth technical foul of the season after she protested a no-call on a hard screen on her from Jonquel Jones during the Indiana Fever’s Sunday game against the New York Liberty. Per the rules, upon reaching eight fouls, she will incur an automatic 1-game suspension. When a media person asked her if she would change her style to collect fewer fouls, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year was unfazed.

Clark has often engaged in verbal spats with game officials over foul-calling, and she has gotten into physical altercations with other players, such as DeWanna Bonner of the Phoenix Mercury. After the win over the Liberty, 108-88, Clark addressed the media before the team’s practice on Monday, where she was asked about her sixth technical foul and the one-game suspension.

Explaining her side of the play, Clark said:

“I just yelled at him to call it. Obviously, it was a pretty quick technical but, whatever.”

When the media person asked the Fever guard if she would change anything in her approach to the game, she simply responded:

“No.”

After a historic 45-point haul against the Seattle Storm, Clark scored 17 points and seven assists in the win over the Liberty. Meanwhile, Kelsey Mitchell led the offense with 33 points, as the team registered a crucial back-to-back win. The Fever will feel confident before their next matchup against the Connecticut Sun.

During her aforementioned media address before the team’s practice, Caitlin Clark expressed her thoughts on Kelsey Mitchell’s fourth-quarter and-1 triple over two defenders. She stated that it was one of her favorite moments of the season. She said:

“I don’t know if she’s ever like maybe surprised by what she does but like, even that three I think she was, like, almost probably a little surprised that it went in. It was just one of those plays where it’s like dang, one of those nights when you’re really feeling it, you’re really in the zone.”

Mitchell leads the team with 23.3 ppg this season and had back-to-back 3-point games in the Fever’s last two wins. The team will look to go into the All-Star break with a win over the Sun.
