Sophie Cunningham’s impression of Los Angeles was not a pleasant one. The Indiana Fever guard was in the city for the NBA All-Star Game this weekend.
After the festivities ended and it was time to leave, Cunningham reflected on her experience in a rant on TikTok, saying that the city has no personality.
“So I promise you, I’m not being judgmental, because I think there’s a place for everyone. And some people thrive in different areas. I don’t think I’m an LA girl. Like, at all,” Cunningham began.
“It’s just weird. Like, people don’t dance, people are like, don’t even say hi, they have no personalities. They have no personalities and they all look the same! It’s weird.”
“But if you can’t speak to people or look at people in the eye, like in person, is that not weird? Am I weird? I mean, I know I’m weird. But like, people just get so used to talking to their phones. Like, talk to someone in person! And look like yourself.”
Growing up in Columbia, Missouri, Sophie Cunningham often refers to herself as a country girl. She attended Rock Bridge High School in Columbia before playing basketball at the University of Missouri.
She was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in 2019 and played six seasons there before being traded to the Indiana Fever in Feb. 2025.
Sophie Cunningham played 30 games for the Indiana Fever. She last appeared in August 2025 before being ruled out with an MCL tear. She averaged 8.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 1.2 apg, shooting 46.9%, including 43.2% from 3-point range.
Sophie Cunningham shares what she would change in the NBA All-Star game
During an interview with GQ Sports, Sophie Cunningham was asked to share what she would like to add or remove from NBA All-Star Weekend. She gave a surprising answer, asking to change the All-Star Game, despite the positive feedback received by the latest format.
“I think I would take out like the three teams, and I would just go back to East vs. West,” Cunningham said. “Just go back to the basics. Keeping it simple.”
Cunningham added that while she appreciates the creativity and understands the reason behind the new All-Star Game format, she believes the original East All-Stars vs. West All-Stars format would be better.
