Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham often trade jokes and barbs on social media. The two, who have become close friends after spending last season with the Indiana Fever, are often ruthless in their banter.
On Thursday, Cunningham posted photos of her collaboration with Adidas on Instagram. She wrote to promote a pair of shoes from the Three Stripes Brand:
“These are legit everyone’s favorite shoes! Dress them up or down. So swaggy yet elevated and clean…. Thank me later.”
Clark promptly reacted to the post:
“I assure you, they aren’t my favorite.”
Sophie Cunningham pushed back:
“@caitlinclark and I promise you we get better treated at Adidas.”
Cunningham, according to Booking Agent Info, has been with Adidas since 2022. She got a more pronounced role with the brand when she joined Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever in 2025. In July, the 3-and-D player was featured by Adidas during the release of NBA star Damian Lillard’s Dame X shoes.
In November, Sophie Cunningham was again featured in the release of new Dame X colorways. She posted on Instagram to introduce the pink versions of the sneakers with a note:
“Come get spicy like me with the Dame X Electric Pink kicks.”
Cunningham’s latest post about Adidas was from the brand’s “Originals” collections, retro or old shoes that have been remade to become lifestyle footwear.
Unsurprisingly, Caitlin Clark couldn’t hold back from trolling her good friend. As one of Nike’s athletes, Clark couldn’t agree, at least publicly, about what Cunningham claimed.
Caitlin Clark will release signature shoe this year
In August, Nike dropped Caitlin Clark’s highly anticipated logo, featuring two intertwined C’s that have become quite a hit. The brand also confirmed that Clark’s long-awaited sneaker line will come out in 2026.
Last year, Clark often wore Kobe Bryant shoes in different colorways. The Clark colorway of the Nike Kobe 6 was the most-worn shoe in the NBA in December, according to KixStats. Additionally, the Indiana Fever colorway of the Kobe 5 Proto came in fifth.
To set the stage for this year’s release of Caitlin Clark’s signature shoe, Nike dropped the “From Anywhere” ad on Christmas Day. The brand gave no specifics about the release date or the tech, but the long wait has only whetted the fans’ appetite.
Nobody will be surprised if Clark and Sophie Cunningham have another back-and-forth on social media once those shoes are out.
