“Refs Are Killing Any Momentum We Get”: Atlanta Dream Executive Blasts Referees Over Missed Calls on Angel Reese Amid Losing Skid

Angel Reese and Co. have now lost five consecutive games, and one of the Atlanta Dream executives highlighted the reasons behind it, holding officials accountable. The debate over officiating has been growing among fans and players, especially due to Caitlin Clark’s constant altercations with referees this season. And now, her biggest rival, Angel Reese, experienced similar issues.

The Dream lost to the Golden State Valkyries, 83-88, even though Reese scored another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Meanwhile, a few clips from the game went viral, from the second quarter, where the center seemingly elbowed Laeticia Amihere. However, the slow-motion clips showed that there might not have been a contact.

Dream executive Larry Gottesdiener addressed those issues on social media:

“A game we need to win. But it might be time to write about the team with the worst whistle in the league. The lish tech. The lish 3-point play. The uncalled fouls on AR. The flo by Amihere etc. refs are killing any momentum we get. Why?”

A user shared the executive’s statement with the caption:

“Anybody with common sense will know that it’s only happening b/c Angel is on their team and it’s a call coming from the top. They have things to fix as a team but the refs r nasty.”

Officiating has been under criticism right from the first game of the season. Several players have mentioned their plight with referees and their calls in the pressers, including the 2026 WNBA’s top overall pick, Azzi Fudd. However, the league has not addressed it yet.

Angel Reese addresses Dream’s losing streak

Angel Reese addressed the Dream’s five-game losing streak in the post-game media session and talked about “championship culture.” The team had a dreamy start to the season, but their record is now hovering around .500. The Dream center talked about the difficult phase and said:

“It’s not supposed to be easy. Championship culture is not supposed to be easy.”

The team has every ingredient of a championship-material side. Reese has been big on the board, leading the team with 11.8 rpg, while Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray have taken up the heavy lifting duties. For now, they will look to come out of this phase together, as a team.
