Caitlin Clark and Alyssa Thomas have been embroiled in controversy since the Indiana Fever’s June 24 matchup against the Phoenix Mercury. Though the Mercury forward was handed a one-game suspension after her physical foul on Clark, Thomas complained about the online hate against her. After that, the Fever superstar also opened up about the social media criticism and stood in solidarity against hate. However, a WNBA analyst believed it wasn’t enough.
Clark is not new to criticism and threats, so much so that she was engaged in a legal dispute with a Texas man named Michael Lewis. This time, the superstar turned up to speak against the hate Thomas talked about, even though the two teams engaged in a heated battle as rivals.
However, a few fans were not happy with Clark’s statement, as one wrote:
“She talked for a long time but said very little”
Former player-turned-analyst Ros Gold-Onwude reshared the fan’s comment and shared her thoughts on Clark’s statement. Even though she called out the Fever guard for not being “specific” in her statement about Thomas, the analyst said that speaking less was better than being silent.
Gold-Onwude wrote:
“I feel you. I do think she could have been even more specific. However, I was critical of her not saying anything. So I am calling out that CC did use her media time to step up and address this latest issue publicly. I thought she gave it thought and I’m glad something was said vs the silence we had for days.”
The fact that Clark stood up for a player who was on her throat, literally, already seems like something a lot of players won’t do in a sport like basketball that breeds on rivalries and competitiveness. Meanwhile, the league’s stance and actions against such hate would surely assure players of their physical and mental safety.
NFL legend Tom Brady shouts out Caitlin Clark in his Fourth of July video
The Fourth of July is a day of celebration for the U.S., and there is no better way to celebrate than by reminiscing about the country’s biggest sports moments. That’s what the seven-time Super Bowl champion did!
In his latest social media video, the NFL royalty listed several great moments in American sports that have redefined the country’s legacy, including Serena Williams’ majors, Michael Jordan’s flu game, LeBron James’ game-winning block in Cleveland, and many more.
One of those was also Clark’s record-breaking bucket that made her the all-time leading scorer in women’s college history. The video was captioned:
“Happy Birthday America {American flag} Here’s to 250 more!”
Getting a mention from an all-time great would surely feel like a breath of fresh air for Caitlin Clark, who has been dealing with multiple issues on and off the court. One of those is her back injury, which will keep her sidelined from Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces.
