Azzi Fudd started the journey of her basketball career with the participation in Stephen Curry’s basketball camp. The Curry Camp has given a brilliant platform to a lot of talented high school players over the years. There are numerous athletes who have grown into some great basketball players both in the NBA as well as the WNBA.
Fudd started getting recognition for her talent after she got called up at the Curry Camp. She possessed some high shooting skills and also had a promising three point shooting prowess right from the start. It was natural that Stephen Curry took her under his wing and helped her grow her game.
In her 5 years of college basketball career, she has maintained a pretty decent three-point shooting average of 42.2%. She scored over 280 three point shots in the course of 115 games for the UConn Huskies. She had also participated, impressed and won multiple three-point contests. So when Azzi asked Stephen Curry about his favorite moment from her career, he picked an infamous three point contest which thoroughly described not only Azzi’s skill but also her competitiveness and will power.
“I think my favorite moment though is you trying to go out here and think that you could win the three-point contest in a boot. That’s still my favorite. You remember that? You were hurt. You were hurt. She’s hurt, like can’t really do all the other drills, but she’s still around,” Steph remembered. “I think this is the second year. We came back the next year and we had like our all-star game at this high school in Oakland and we have like a halftime three-point contest.”
“And we’re like, I think Azzi might shoot, but she’s got literally a walking boot on. We’re like, all right, we’ll see what happens. And she’s the one out here having fun. But that look of no, I do this. And so she got out there, there was cash from all around the court, every rack in a boot, in a boot. I don’t know how she calibrated the balance and all of that stuff,” Steph shared at 5:00.
Steph said that was his favorite moment of Azzi’s confidence and competitiveness. It didn’t matter what the situation was, she just wanted to compete. She wanted to show that toughness even if it was just a summertime three-point shootout with no stakes involved. Even with the plastered leg Azzi Fudd actually managed to hit 14 three pointers out of 25.
When 15 year old Azzi Fudd competed with Stephen Curry at his own game
An injured Azzi Fudd impressing in a three point contest while wearing a boot, probably wasn’t her most impressive feat. She once came close to beating Stephen Curry in a three point contest when she was just 15 years old in the Curry Camp.
Steph won 20-16 against Azzi but the 15 year old phenom impressed one and all. Afterwards Steph’s father Dell also competed and scored 16 points himself.
