Over the course of her three years in the WNBA so far, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has struggled with different injuries. In the 2025 season, she was limited to just 13 games due to a reaggravated groin injury. In her third campaign in 2026, Clark is on pace to significantly play more games. Still, she has dealt with minor injuries that have limited her from reaching her full potential.
In late June, Clark suffered a minor back injury against the Phoenix Mercury. Throughout July, the spitfire scorer has been in and out of the active lineup and has even seen her minutes restricted at times. During a recent media availability,
posted by sports reporter James Boyd on X on Monday, July 20, coach Stephanie White was asked if Clark’s minutes restriction will finally be lifted.
“I have no idea. It’s one day at a time,” White said. (0:00)

While White asserts that she does not know when Clark can play full minutes, the latter’s next opportunity to do so is on Wednesday, July 22, versus the Connecticut Sun on their home floor. Throughout her third year in the league, Clark has averaged 20.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 0.9 steals in around 29.3 minutes in 22 games. She has helped the Fever to an overall record of 16-10 so far.
Coach Stephanie White stresses the importance of defense
In the same
media availability, Stephanie White was asked how her team adapts on defense to different offensive schemes. White explained that the strategy depends on the offense they match up against. In the process, she said that her team needs to be consistent on defense, similar to their offense.
“ I think for us, it starts with our mindset. Look, we can score. Like, we know we can score. But in order to accomplish what we want to accomplish, we’ve got to continue to get better on the defensive end. Now, we’re better today than we were earlier in the season. We’re better today than we were yesterday. We were better against New York than we were against Seattle. But we got to string larger chunks of the game together,” White said. (1:20)
Currently, Caitlin Clark and company have the top offense in the league (94.4 points per game), but are not in the top five for defensive rating.
