Brittney Griner and Angel Reese are two forces to be reckoned with in the shaded lane. When Griner and Reese squared off Tuesday night, an intense battle for the boards ensued, resulting in one of them getting slapped with a stiff sanction.
Early in the fourth quarter of the Connecticut Sun-Atlanta Dream matchup, the two frontcourt stalwarts jockeyed for rebounding position as Naz Hillmon put up a three. As the ball bounced off the rim, Griner and Reese got entangled; Reese tried to get around Griner’s arm, causing the referee to blow his whistle as she fell to the ground.
The officials went to review the call, which was eventually upgraded to a Flagrant 1.
On social media, there were fans piling on Reese for supposedly embellishing the physicality in this sequence.
“Angel Reese would be a great actress if she ever needed a second career.”
“Angel definitely fouled BG then flipped to the ground. It shouldn’t have been called a Flagrant”
“I see why they called it but tell Angel stop grabbing arms”
“Mannn angel made that look worse then it was”
Notably, there were some netizens who spoke in defense of Reese, criticizing Griner instead.
“Shoulda been a flagrant 2”
“Look man, don’t u hurt my girl Angel”
In the end, Reese got the last laugh as the Dream defeated the Sun 91-75 to pick up their sixth win of the season. Reese finished with a double-double performance of 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Angel Reese Achieves Career Scoring Milestone in Dream’s Latest Victory
On top of Atlanta’s latest win, Angel Reese also achieved a milestone by reaching 1,000 career points.
Reese pulled off this feat late in the third quarter, when she caught a pass from Jordin Canada and knocked down a corner three.
Heading into the game, Reese had scored 994 points across her first three seasons in the league. At just 24 years old, she now stands at 1,006 career points.
