Olivia Miles’ recent statement on the draft night has caught the WNBA world off guard. The draft was on March 13, where Azzi Fudd was selected as the top overall pick. Interestingly, both Fudd and Miles have openly talked about their sexuality after coming out. On draft night, Miles made her feelings clear in support of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In a conversation with Them, an online media brand supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, Miles shared her support for the community and said:
“Rooting for the lesbians, I just have to, always.”
Miles made her relationship with former Notre Dame teammate and Chicago Sky forward Maddy Westbeld public in 2025. The two often share their romantic moments on social media. Moreover, this year’s top pick, Fudd, and last year’s top overall pick, Paige Bueckers, also made their relationship public last season during the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend.
Unlike Olivia Miles, Bueckers and Fudd will now play for the same team, the Dallas Wings. They made a lot of noise playing together for the UConn Huskies, and the team expects the same firepower when the two talented guards take the floor once again.
Minnesota Lynx selects Olivia Miles with second pick
Even though there were several rumors before the 2026 WNBA draft that teams might prefer bigs compared to guards this year, given management’s demands, the top two picks were guards. Miles will now be in Minnesota, a team that is already a championship contender.
The Lynx lost in the semifinal matchup with the Phoenix Mercury last season. Miles’ pairing with Napheesa Collier will be something every WNBA fan will look forward to when the season finally begins. The TCU star is a primary ball handler and can command the offense with her court vision.
Meanwhile, Collier is a menace in the paint and can shoot and protect the rim at the same time. Miles was qualified for the draft last season as well and was a highly anticipated prospect, but she decided to remain another year in college to work on her skills. Only time will tell if the combination helps the Lynx go all the way to the finals this season.
