‘Not Everyone Is Gonna Like Me’: Caitlin Clark Speaks Out on Criticism From Fans Amid Chelsea Gray Controversy

The WNBA is on high alert after a racist message was sent to Las Vegas Aces star Chelsea Gray following the team’s 109-75 loss to Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on Sunday. The racist message was sent after the two players had a physical altercation.

Clark received a lot of criticism from fans following the incident, from being soft to her fans sending racist messages. However, she addressed it during a Wednesday news conference ahead of their game against the Golden State Valkyries:

“There’s gonna be people that love you, there’s gonna be people that hate you. It probably means you’re doing something right. None of that really affects me,” she said, “And like I always say, the people’s opinions that matter are the people in our locker room, people in this organization and my teammates.

“And you know I love you guys, but at the end of the day, if you don’t like me, my life’s still gonna go on. Not every one of you is gonna like me, and I understand that, and that’s ok. I think it’s just surrounding yourself with really good people. You gotta have thick skin to be in a position like this, and I think I have that, too.”

Clark and the Fever lost 88-75 to the Valkyries.

Person Who Sent Chelsea Gray Racist Message After Caitlin Clark Incident Got Fired

As for that person who sent Chelsea Gray the racist message after her incident with Caitlin Clark, he was soon identified as a Hilton Grand Vacations employee, with the hotel soon confirming that he was subsequently fired.

This led to a statement by the Las Vegas Aces, with the team praising Hilton Grand Vacations.

“We stand with organizations, like Hilton Grand Vacations, that hold individuals accountable for racist conduct,” the team said in a statement.

The team also condemned the employee’s actions and stated that it does not condone hate speech of any kind.
