Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington accused former teammate and ex-partner NaLyssa Smith of cheating on her with multiple partners in a social media post on Sunday. As the post went viral, many fans sided with Carrington and called out the Aces’ forward for allegedly not staying loyal to her partner.
NaLyssa Smith made her opinion on the accusations very clear during a Twitch livestream on the same evening.
The 25-year-old brushed off DiJonai Carrington’s claims, saying there was no need for her to bring up these conversations, especially after their breakup, which happened in December of last year. Smith also levied accusations of her own, claiming Carrington wasn’t completely loyal to her either.
“Whether she cheated on me, or I cheated on her. Why are we bringing that to the internet a year later? When nobody did anything to anybody? Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody. Like, that don’t even make sense. And to bring it back to the internet a year later is crazy. Just for fun? That’s ridiculous. Especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship? I would never do that to anybody.”
While Smith claimed that Carrington is in a relationship, there are no confirmed reports about who her partner is. Meanwhile, Smith is also not confirmed to be in a relationship after the public fallout of her breakup with Carrington.
NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington’s Relationship Timeline
NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington became teammates under Kim Mulkey, playing for the Baylor women’s basketball team. The two first made their relationship public in 2024 after a playoff matchup between Carrington’s Sun and Smith’s Fever.
The duo got to be on the same team once again when the Dallas Wings traded for Smith, but it was broken up shortly after when Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Aces while Carrington headed to the Minnesota Lynx.
Just months after Smith’s move to Las Vegas, Carrington and Smith announced that they had broken up, with Carrington defining the relationship as ‘permanently closed.’
