“I Don’t Want to Get Punked Out There”: Olivia Miles Sets the Record Straight on Verbal Spat With Paige Bueckers

Olivia Miles didn’t waste any time settling the score with Paige Bueckers. One of the most memorable moments of the Minnesota Lynx’s 85-77 victory against the Dallas Wings was Miles getting involved in a viral verbal confrontation with Bueckers.

Perhaps the scuffle itself wasn’t as much of a surprise as who it was with. Wings forward Jessica Shepard and Miles had been going back and forth trash-talking each other all night. Emotions had been building from the tipoff as Miles targeted her over the course of the game, and it finally boiled over after Bueckers decided to chime in.

Following the game, Miles had the chance to reflect on the verbal altercation. She commended herself for standing up for herself as a rookie.

“I’m not trying to start anything,” Miles said. “I usually just kind of get triggered by something, and then I kind of don’t want to get punked out there just because I’m a rookie.”

With that, she sent a clear message to opponents to be ready to answer the bell.

Olivia Miles and the Minnesota Lynx Get the Last Laugh Over Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and the Dallas Wings Once Again

There has been no love lost between the Minnesota Lynx and the Dallas Wings this season. This matchup involves the top two picks in this year’s WNBA Draft, and they have met three times so far – with the Lynx winning all three contests.

On Sunday, it was a chippy game that was a lot closer than their previous one, but in the end, it was the impact of Olivia Miles and Natasha Howard that resonated and gave the Minnesota Lynx the 85-77 win. Howard led the Lynx with a dominant double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Miles also put together an outstanding 21-point performance.

On the Dallas end, Paige Bueckers had a game-high 25 points and Azzi Fudd added 21 points, but the rest of the roster failed to rise to the occasion as Dallas remains winless against the Lynx this season.

Miles continues to establish herself as a crucial part of the Minnesota future, growing into a physical, two-way presence with the ability to make an impact in all areas of the game. She is the frontrunner to win the Rookie of the Year award and is also in the MVP conversation alongside A’ja Wilson. At 5-foot-10, Miles has fully embraced the power WNBA style of play, quickly molding it into her own.
