Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham drained six three-pointers on Sunday against the Las Vegas Aces, just one night after making her UFC 329 debut as a ring girl. Cunningham couldn’t have given a more fitting response to critics who weren’t as excited with her side gig on Sunday, proving she still belongs on the court.
The veteran scored 20 points off the bench as the Fever routed the defending champions 109-75 for the second time in one week. Indiana beat Las Vegas 84-68 on Jul. 5. Cunningham picked up steam in the second half after scoring only five points in the first. She made five of her six threes in that stretch.
Cunningham’s long-range blitz was one of the reasons the Fever pulled away midway through the third quarter and maintained that advantage the rest of the game. The guard’s performance sent fans into a frenzy, with many referencing that the UFC 329 ring girl debut didn’t impact her on the court.
“No ring girl hangover,” one fan said.
