Marine Johannes flirted with Liberty’s franchise record for most 3-pointers in a game on Wednesday, held by Sabrina Ionescu. Johannes hit the Mercury with a barrage of shots from long range, converting seven triples for her 21-point night. The Liberty won 84-74, snapping a three-game losing streak. According to ESPN, Ionescu made eight 3-pointers to break the franchise record.
Johannes didn’t contribute much to the Liberty’s 23-0 unanswered run, which began in the third quarter. However, she was single-handedly responsible for keeping it close midway through the third quarter. Johannes knocked down four 3-pointers in the first quarter alone. She had one in the second and two more in the third before the Liberty’s run began.
Marine Johannes couldn’t break Sabrina Ionescu’s franchise record, but matched Caitlin Clark’s season record with seven 3-pointers, becoming the only two players to achieve that feat thus far. Clark had seven on May 15 against Washington.
Johannes also impacted the game beyond her shooting. She added five assists and two steals to her box score.
The Liberty needed that spark early on after playing their seventh game in Sabrina Ionescu’s absence, who is dealing with a new back issue after missing time with ankle and foot injuries to start the season.
New York was also without Satou Sabally, who missed her fifth game. Sabally was out citing illness. In her last game on Monday against Portland, she played four minutes before heading to the locker room.

Marine Johannes passed Kelsey Plum and Caitlin Clark on Wednesday as the 2026 WNBA season’s official leader for most 3-pointers per game. Johannes’ seven 3-pointers against the Mercury got her season average up to 3.4 per game on 7.8 attempts. She’s converting at an efficient clip of 43.5%.
She’s third in that context among players with at least five 3-point attempts. Plum leads the pack, making 48.8% of her shots from beyond the arc, while Gabby Williams is second, making 44.1%.
Marine Johannes is enjoying a career year in her fifth season, averaging 12.6 points. Her previous career-high was 10.0 ppg in 2022.
