Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles has played so well in her first year in the WNBA that she is the frontrunner for the 2026 Rookie of the Year award. Throughout the season, Miles has led a veteran-filled Lynx team to big wins that have now put them as the current top seed in the Western Conference standings. If this trend continues for Miles, then she will likely stack up against the likes of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark eventually.
Among the onlookers who are in awe of Miles is American columnist Jason Whitlock. The 59-year-old recently reposted a
post about Miles on his X/Twitter page by @ESPNInsights. In the caption, he wrote how much he likes to watch Miles play, but stressed that there is no need to highlight bogus distinctions as historical records with her. Along with this, Whitlock also took a subtle shot at Clark.
“I like Olivia Miles. She’s fun to watch. Don’t need these bogus ‘fastest to reach’ distinctions passed off as historic records. It’s a gimmick to make you think you’re watching history in real time. I think this when they do it to CC as well,” Whitlock wrote.
The statistic Whitlock was criticizing is Miles reaching 400 points in her rookie year after her recent game, which makes her the fastest rookie ever to reach 400 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists in their career. Miles did so in just 22 games. Whitlock then feels this was already done by the public on Clark, who has shattered records of her own already in just three years in the league.
Jason Whitlock Was Critical Of Caitlin Clark Recently For Her Treatment Of Referees
On Tuesday, July 13, Jason Whitlock
uploaded a video to his X/Twitter page, where he criticized Caitlin Clark for allegedly flopping and going after the referees during her recent regular season game. During Sunday’s game versus the Las Vegas Aces, Clark was inadvertently hit by Aces veteran Chelsea Gray in the second quarter after Clark tried defending Gray’s shot attempt.
“You just don’t put this type of behavior on film, Caitlin Clark. It undermines your respect across the league. It undermines your following. It undermines everything. It opens you up to questions like, what lengths won’t this woman go through when things aren’t going well for her? This woman collapsed to the floor as if she had been shot. And, nothing had happened to her,” Whitlock said. (1:03)
Clark and company did eventually win over the Aces by a staggering 34 points, 109-75, in away territory.
