Sophie Cunningham’s finger-pointing gesture is not going away anytime soon, and the forward has made sure of it. After the Fever won Thursday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, 92-89, Cunningham celebrated with the same gesture again. However, WNBA reporter Roberta F. Rodrigues criticized the Fever player by highlighting her performance.
Underdog NBA shared the moment on X and wrote:
“Sophie Cunningham: committed to the bit.”
Roberta reshared the video, taking a dig at Cunningham for scoring nine points on 2-7 shooting from the floor. She wrote:
“Girl you had 9 points, 4 of them on free throws. Shot 28.6% from the field. Just… stop please.”
Cunningham led the bench with nine points but played 29 minutes. However, her impact is much more than what these stats show. Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark played Wednesday night’s game against the Sparks, and the Fever lost 106-92.
Clark missed the game against the Mercury on Thursday. Kelsey Mitchell was clinical once again with 29 points and eight assists.
Sophie Cunningham set to launch her new Adidas PE
Sophie Cunningham has received immense popularity after her viral pointing moment against the Mercury on June 22. Several fans, analysts, and celebrities from multiple fields have addressed the moment or used the clip as a meme on social media.
Amid this popularity, the forward is scheduled to launch her new shoes with Adidas, Crazy Energy “Sophie Cunningham” PE, which would reportedly cost around $120. Sneaker News shared on X:
“Sophie Cunningham’s first adidas shoe release is coming soon.
Her Crazy Energy PE is set to drop on July 24th for $120.”
Sophie Cunningham is one of the most important bench pieces in the Fever’s lineup and impacts the game with her enforcer-type plays and perimeter shooting. The Fever will take a little break before facing the Las Vegas Aces again. This time, the matchup might not be as easy as it was the last time they met, as A’ja Wilson will be back on the floor.
