The Las Vegas Aces unceremoniously cut ties with Chennedy Carter on Tuesday just before the guard was due to sign a permanent contract with the team. Although she was one of the frontrunners for the Sixth Player of the Year award, averaging 12.2 points per game in 13 games, her fate quickly took a usual turn.
The Aces joined a list of teams that have cut ties with Carter, including the Atlanta Dream, who waived her in 2021 due to disciplinary issues; the LA Sparks, who waived her before the 2023 season; and others.
USA Today Sports analyst Callie Fin reported on Wednesday that the guard has seemingly cut ties with team players after the decision was made official:
“Chennedy Carter has since cut ties with Kierstan Bell and nearly the entire Aces team on social media, only continuing to follow Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, who has known Carter since their shared time in Atlanta.”
Carter is one of the league’s most polarizing players, often making waves for her strong opinions and off-court antics. The Dream waived her due to her alleged locker-room altercation with a teammate. Although there is little doubt about her skills on the court, including her shooting abilities, her career has been consistently derailed due to constant pushback of her off-court personality.
Chennedy Carter had a historic start to the 2026 season
Chennedy Carter was producing at an elite level this season for the Aces. She even said that joining the franchise was the “best decision I’ve ever made in my life.” However, everything did not seem fine between the two parties after her reduced role in the team’s wins.
Carter etched her name on the list of players with the most points off the bench in the first five games of the season:
The Aces acquired rookie Justine Pissott after waiving Carter. Meanwhile, there is no confirmation about any team’s interest in Carter yet. Only time will tell which way her future in the league will go now.
