Paige Bueckers Hilariously Predicts Geno Auriemma Will Be Biased Toward Azzi Fudd & Breanna Stewart In Broadcasting Booth

Paige Bueckers hilariously predicted that her former coach Geno Auriemma would be biased against her when he returns to the broadcasting booth on July 7. Auriemma will call the game between the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty, in which Bueckers, Breanna Stewart and Azzi Fudd will be among the notable UConn alumni in action.

Appearing on SportsCenter on Wednesday, Bueckers joked that Auriemma will criticize all of her mistakes while praising Stewart and Fudd.

“(He will speak about) everything that I will do wrong,” Bueckers said. “Just glaring mistakes. It’ll be like a film session where he’s just attacking me if I miss a box out, if I miss a defensive rotation, if I miss a shot, if I have a turnover. … And then he’ll obviously love Azzi, love Stewie.

“(He’ll say) they’re the best, they don’t make mistakes, they’re the perfect basketball players to ever grace this Earth. That’s exactly what I’m expecting.”

Paige Bueckers and Geno Auriemma have mutual respect. The UConn coach called Bueckers the best player in America in 2024 and has ranked her among his best prospects. However, he’s also been strict with her.

Auriemma has sought to get the best out of Bueckers with tough love over the years, even after she left for the WNBA in 2025, following her national championship win.

Geno Auriemma says he can say anything about Paige Bueckers and others now that he’s not coaching them

Geno Auriemma seems excited to return to the booth and talk about his former UConn stars, Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and Breanna Stewart. On Tuesday, Auriemma said he was looking forward to serving as a broadcaster rather than a coach.

“I happen to have a whole bunch of players in the league that I root for every night,” Auriemma said (via The Dallas Morning News). “And getting to actually watch live and talk about them. Yeah, I mean, I don’t have to coach them. So I can say all the things I’ve always wanted to say about them. So I’m looking forward to it.”

Bueckers and Fudd are leading the Wings’ revival. They have guided the team to an 11-6 record, keeping Dallas on track to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason for two consecutive seasons.
Meanwhile, Stewart and the Liberty are 12-6. They have looked like legitimate contenders and will hope to return to the summit after failing to defend their crown last year.
