This past week, USA Today columnist Nancy Armour blasted Caitlin Clark for her reactions to the officiating of her games. Armour criticized the Indiana Fever star for supposedly flopping in situations where her defenders make “minimal” contact.
In an interview with Holly Rowe on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Clark opened up on dealing with criticism like Armour’s remarks. According to CC, handling things in a classy way remains her top priority amidst all the passionate discourse.
“There’s gonna be people that don’t always agree with your playing style or how you carry yourself. And that’s okay. That might mean you’re doing something right, too. Not everybody needs to love you. Just continue to carry yourself in the correct manner.”
Allowing herself to be vulnerable, CC admitted that the negativity puts her on an emotional roller coaster.
“I think, sometimes, people forget that I have feelings. I’m a real individual. I feel things, and I have emotions…I get frustrated, I get sad, I get happy, I get joyful…At the same time, I have really thick skin.”
Clark, who was named a WNBA All-Star for the third time this year, also commented on the narratives that tend to take the internet by storm.
“I always try to remind myself that social media is not always reality. And that is really lost on people. I think we get so down a rabbit hole all the time. You read all these things, and you’re like, oh that has to be true. Or, that has to be what people really think of me.”
This past month has demonstrated how Clark has grown into one of the most polarizing figures in WNBA history. As viral clips from her games stimulate plenty of online discourse, her supporters have defended her more vehemently while her detractors have found new reasons to question her character and even her performance on the court.
From the looks of it, Clark has her finger on the pulse. As she said in this interview, dealing with all the online comments is a work in progress.

Apparently, Caitlin Clark had a preference for LBJ’s next destination. Speaking to reporters in the wake of the blockbuster James news, Clark shared that she wanted to see him team up with his fellow four-time NBA champion.
“I wanted the Warriors because Steph and Bron would’ve been absolutely insane together, but they have some serious talent on the 76ers.”
Clark added that she will now be watching more Sixers games, as James teams up with the All-Star core of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown.
