Paige Bueckers and Flau’jae Johnson meet for the first time in their careers as the Dallas Wings host the Seattle Strom. Wings have recently found momentum while Storm are in desperate need of some. Wings won the last two games vs WNBA champions from last two seasons. Storm, on the other hand, has lost 2 games back to back.
After winning Rookie of the Year last season, Paige is continuing her good form in the WNBA. She is averaging 19.4 points, 3 rebounds and 5.1 assists so far this season. Storm rookie Flau’jae Johnson has made a decent start to her WNBA career. She has immediately solidified her sport in the starting lineup. Former LSU guard is averaging 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 9 appearances.
Before the two superstars meet in the WNBA for the first time, Flau’jae was asked about Paige Bueckers. She mentioned how this was going to be their first meeting on the court. She was honest and full of admiration for the former UConn star.
“I have always wanted to play against Paige. I never got to in college. But I love Paige. She’s an amazing player, way better person. I speak really highly of her. Every time I’m with her, we have a time. But I’m ready to compete against her, she’s one of the best of the best,” Flau’jae praised Paige.
“When we worked out together, she really showed me another level of what it’s like. And that’s somebody that, I will like to model my game after. Especially like the pace that she plays with. She’s so in control. So, I am gonna love playing against her. I’m ready to compete,” she said.
Flau’jae Johnson and Paige Bueckers’ close friendship
Flau’jae and Paige go way back. Some may even claim that they have one of the best bonds in women’s basketball. They first came together during WNBA All Star games. They had a lot of fun covering parts of the weekend online.
They have also collaborated for different basketball events. This gave birth to a close friendship which then extended to joint workouts, podcast appearances, marketing campaigns, Instagram comment sections and most of all mutual respect for each other.
Whenever the duo has talked about their bond, they always jokingly say that neither of them really quite remembers the start. They just knew they’ll be friends when they hit it off right away.
