Dallas Wings vs Indiana Fever Preview

After a painful season of finishing at the bottom, the Dallas Wings are more than ready to turn the page to a new season. With solid offseason moves, including bringing in Jose Fernandez as head coach and balancing a roster of veterans, up-and-coming prospects, and a handful of new additions, the Wings are aiming for a fresh start.

Dallas’ backcourt is crowded with the likes of Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, Azzi Fudd, Odyssey Sims, Grace Berger, Aziaha James, Lindsay Allen and JJ Quinerly. They bolstered the frontcourt with the addition of 2025 Co-Defensive Player of the Year Alanna Smith, three-time WNBA champion Alysha Clark, and Jessica Shepard, along with returning players Maddy Siegrist, Awak Kuier and Li Yueru.

The Fever opened their exhibition schedule on a high note, defeating the New York Liberty 109-91. It was exactly the kind of performance Indiana needed heading into the new season, far more structured and disciplined despite missing some key pieces.

Caitlin Clark struggled in her first WNBA game, finishing with seven points on 2-of-10 shooting. Kelsey Mitchell and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the team with 18 points each, while rookie Raven Johnson looked effective in her first WNBA action, finishing with six points on 3-of-3 shooting, eight assists, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal. Her adjustment to the level appears to have been smoother than expected.

While preseason basketball is experimentation at its purest. Fever’s coach Stephanie White made it clear that different lineups will cycle through these exhibition games until the team finalizes its roster.

Indiana now has the depth to compete on all fronts this season. Apart from its core, the Fever have bolstered the roster with the additions of Monique Billings, Myisha Hines-Allen, Tyasha Harris and Kaysia Traylor. The increased depth now gives White more flexibility in her approach, something the Fever lacked last season and often struggled with in close games.
