Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark finally has her own signature shoe with sportswear giant Nike. On Thursday, June 18, Clark officially unveiled her inaugural pair with Nike by first holding them in her pre-game fit and then warming up in them. This marks Clark’s first physical appearance in the Nike Caitlin 1s, coming a day after she revealed the shoe in a dump post on her Instagram account.
Clark was asked during her pre-game
press conference about the emotions she felt as she revealed her first signature shoe to the world. The spitfire scorer then admitted that she could not sleep well the night prior, as she felt like a kid again with how excited she was. Clark further explained that she was just proud of the work she and Nike have put into the shoe.
“ Yeah, I think even yesterday, like, knowing that I was gonna post that early in the morning, I didn’t sleep very well because I was just so excited. And I didn’t went to bed late, obviously, ’cause we played the night before, so kind of like a kid on Christmas. Like, you get to show the world what you’ve been working on for a couple years, and I’m just really proud of the work that we did together,” Clark shared. (0:08)
“And, for myself, obviously, it’s been a long time coming, so I’m just really thankful and grateful,” she continued.
According to Clark, the Nike Caitlin 1 is set to release to the public on October 1 of this year. The pair she recently debuted sports an all-blue colorway with hints of silver on the Nike swoosh logo and Clark’s own logo. The outsole features light red hues that complement the translucent blue outsole. The shoe is finished off by a shank plate between the midsole and the outsole.
Caitlin Clark could not stop looking at her shoes, while others did the same
In the same press conference, Caitlin Clark poked fun at the attention her shoes were getting from onlookers and the media. Clark talked about how she kept looking down at her shoes while warming up and jokingly shared that people were staring at her feet. But Clark knows it’s purely for the intention of the basketball world to see a first glance of her first signature shoe.
“Obviously getting to play in them today, I feel like I keep looking down at my shoes when I’m warming up. I’m sure I won’t do that in the game. I’ll just be, like, playing in the flow. But it’s obviously super cool, and I’ve never had so many people staring at my feet when I was warming up, or taking pictures of my feet, which is a little weird. But, I’ll let it slide in this scenario,” Clark said. (0:31)
