There is no doubt that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is one of the most popular players in the current WNBA landscape, arguably the most popular. Her popularity started during her time in college basketball with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Despite never winning the NCAA title, Clark’s memorable moments were enough for her to become the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. Nowadays, that popularity continues to grow as she continues her WNBA career.
Most recently, further evidence of Clark’s popularity was put to light. On Tuesday, CBS Sports reported on X/Twitter that Saturday’s matchup between the New York Liberty and the Fever was the second most-watched WNBA game since 2000. The game averaged 2.58 million viewers and peaked at 3.09 million. The post has since been reposted by the WNBA Communications page.
Women’s basketball fans and spectators praised Clark for drawing a hefty ton of viewers for a game once again.

Other users all over X/Twitter claimed that Clark truly is the current face of the WNBA.
Besides Clark, other users have cited Liberty stars Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart as reasons for the game’s high viewership. On the Fever, Clark’s teammates such as guard Sophie Cunningham and forward Aliyah Boston also could have helped the game’s popularity. Nevertheless, Clark presumably sits at the forefront due to her having a history of selling games out.
The Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty by 20 points
To add to Caitlin Clark’s fire, the Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty by a staggering 20 points, 108-88, on their home floor. Indiana coach Stephanie White’s team was down by four points, at 49-45, at halftime. But in the third quarter, Clark and company put together a 30-point run while holding New York to just 12 points. In the final frame, Indiana held on to this momentum en route to the lopsided win.
Clark dropped 17 points, two rebounds and seven assists in 26 minutes. The Fever’s (16-10) are tied with the Atlanta Dream for the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They face the Connecticut Sun next on Wednesday.
