“Get Off Her Case”: Wings Broadcast Rips Caitlin Clark Critics After Superstar’s 14-Assist Night

Caitlin Clark received support from the Dallas Wings broadcast on Wednesday night as play-by-play announcer Ron Thulin slammed the Indiana Fever superstar’s critics. While calling the game against the Golden State Valkyries on the road, Thulin cited Clark’s 14-assist game against the Toronto Tempo on Tuesday to back the superstar guard.

A Fever fan (X user @zulueditsae) got the snippet as the Wings broadcasters covered the news and notes around the league.

“How about the Fever? 113 points last night vs. the Tempo,” Thulin said. “Caitlin Clark – all the boo-birds saying she’s not doing very well this year – how about a season-high 14 assists? Get off her case, folks. … That’s an editorial comment.”

Clark has been criticized for her inefficient shooting and turnovers this season, despite averaging 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.3 assists. She’s shooting 40.2% from the field, including 32.4% from the 3-point range, and committing a league-high 4.6 turnovers per game.

However, the Fever are 9-5. Clark’s high-turnover games haven’t negatively impacted the team, as it is 5-2 in games she loses the ball at least five times. The Fever’s 113-91 win over the Toronto Tempo sums up the situation best.

Caitlin Clark finished with 21 points, five rebounds and 14 assists but shot a measly 5-for-15, including 1-for-8 from deep. Clark turned the ball over six times. However, she was aggressive enough to get to the free-throw line, going 10-for-14. Clark’s 14 assists negated her six turnovers.

The Fever shot 52.2% collectively, with Clark accounting for 14 of the 25 team assists.

Caitlin Clark and Co. will hope to continue winning streak against Angel Reese’s Dream

Caitlin Clark and the Fever are on a four-game winning streak. Their schedule hasn’t been as difficult, but they still had to put away those teams to improve, which they did. Indiana faces a much taller task against Angel Reese and the Dream. Atlanta is 9-4 on the season and has won five of its last seven games.

The Fever got the better of the Dream in their first matchup on June 4. Indiana won 83-71 against the odds, overcoming the size deficit. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 25 points on 11 of 15 shots, while Clark recorded 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists.

On the other hand, Angel Reese had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alisha Gray and Jordin Canada scored 13 each but shot a measly 9-for-30.
