UCLA has created history after winning its first national championship in women’s basketball, and WNBA star Angel Reese rejoiced in their success. The team defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 79-51, led by Lauren Betts and Gabriela Jacquez, who both scored double-doubles. Reese and other former Gamecocks players congratulated Betts and the Bruins squad.
Betts scored 14 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks, shooting 6-10 from the field. The 6-foot-6 center was awarded the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament. She shared an Instagram post, expressing her happiness after winning the national championship. She wrote in the caption:
“NATTY MF CHAMPS
UCLA has changed my life in ways I’ll never be able to fully explain. Wearing this jersey has meant absolutely everything to me. I have so much love for everyone in this program. GO BRU”
Several former South Carolina Gamecocks and UCLA Bruins players took to the comment section and congratulated Lauren Betts for winning the final. Te-Hina Paopao commented:
“so deserving ! congratsssss”
Another Atlanta Dream athlete, Monique Billings, also wrote:
“There she go”
It seemed that the entire Dream squad was in the comment section, as the new entrant, Angel Reese, also commented:
“congrats girly”
Several other former and current college players commented on Betts’ winning post and shared their congratulations. The attention now shifts to the 2026 WNBA draft, where UConn guard Azzi Fudd is supposed to become the top overall pick, along with others like Aw Fam and Lauren Betts.
Atlanta Dream acquires Angel Reese in a trade with Chicago Sky
In exchange for two first-round picks, one each in 2027 and 2028, the Chicago Sky traded their superstar forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. She will not only help with scoring and spacing the floor with Allisha Gray, but the 2024 Rookie of the Year finalist will also help the team on the board.
The Dream has faced multiple first-round exits in the last seasons and looks to make a deep playoff run in 2026. The team management also holds the 13th overall pick in the upcoming draft and will look to strengthen the frontcourt to help Reese and let her play without any added pressure.
Lauren Betts is also expected to be picked among the top prospects. She led the Bruins to a championship, and her final performance has only made her case stronger before the draft.
