Caitlin Clark was as shocked as anyone that LeBron James chose the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency on Friday. While many were blown away by the decision for a variety of reasons, Clark was stunned because she had made a pitch to the 41-year-old on behalf of the Indiana Pacers.
Such a move would have seen the two influential stars play in the same city. However, it wasn’t meant to be. Here’s how Clark, who was doing her WNBA All-Star weekend press conference, reacted:
“No way! I just pitched him for the Pacers. It didn’t get to him fast enough.”
Clark also admitted that she “selfishly” wanted James to join the Golden State Warriors so that he could team up with one of his greatest rivals, Steph Curry.
“Selfishly, I wanted the Warriors because Steph and Bron would have been absolutely insane together,” Clark said. “But they got some serious talent on the 76ers. Arguably, maybe, one of the favorites in the East now with the Knicks and obviously my Pacers, but wow, I thought he was either gonna go Miami or Cleveland, so that’s really shocking, but I’ll be watching more 76ers games.”
Clark said she was always going to root for him no matter what team he played for. She also plans to watch one of the 76ers-Pacers games and is keenly waiting for the NBA schedule to drop so that she can book her tickets.
Caitlin Clark won’t have to stay up late to watch LeBron James’ games anymore
With LeBron James returning to the Eastern Conference, Caitlin Clark and the rest of the fans on the East Coast won’t have to wait until late to catch the NBA legend in action for the final one or two seasons of his career. The time zone would allow maximum coverage for Philadelphia in prime time when people from multiple time zones across the US can catch James in action live.
For the last eight years, James’ games, especially at home for LA, were too late for East Coast viewers. The schedule makers tried their best to slot his games accordingly, but it wasn’t always possible.
Clark and people on the East Coast will also have the chance to catch James in action at least twice per season on the road.
