Angel Reese’s “Bayou Barbie” nickname is becoming a reality this week. Ahead of the 2026 WNBA All-Star Weekend, the Atlanta Dream star unveiled her own signature Barbie doll in collaboration with Mattel. Reese shared pictures of her along with the doll on social media with the caption, “This Barbie Knows Ball 🎀🏀 The Angel Reese Barbie Doll is out now!”
While many fans celebrated the achievement, some criticized the WNBA star.
One fan wrote, “Literally nobody wants this. Get over yourself! 😂”
Another user wrote, “I’m sure this will be a rare collection item in the future”
“Yeah copping this for my lil baby girls for sure,” another wrote.
“An Angel Reese Barbie was a long time coming. And it’s poseable!” one fan wrote.
Another fan added, “This Barbie is so gorgeous, damn 🎀💄🏀,”
Another congratulated her, writing, “Congratulations Angel Reese, what an incredible milestone. All the hard work finally paying off.”
Reese explained what this doll represents to her.
“Throughout my basketball journey, I’ve always played by my own rules and refused to let anyone limit what I can achieve,” Reese said. “Now, it’s my mission to inspire others to realize they have that same power to overcome their doubts and rebound from any obstacle.”
Sheryl Swoopes Calls Out Sandy Brondello For Insulting Angel Reese
Four-time WNBA champion Sheryl Swoopes defended Reese on July 22 following Toronto Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello’s controversial “protected species” remark.
Although Brondello later apologized and explained that the phrase is commonly used in Australian sports to describe players who receive favorable officiating, Swoopes stressed that context matters in the WNBA.
“At the end of the day, you’re not in Australia. You’re the head coach of a team in a league of predominantly Black women,” Swoopes said on “The Women’s Hoop Show,” “You have to be very mindful of your position… I don’t care where you’re from. You can’t say things like that.”
Reese later accepted Brondello’s apology while thanking the WNBA for taking action after the league suspended the Tempo coach for one game without pay.
