Caitlin Clark Lands in Unwanted WNBA Category As Fever Star’s Defensive Challenges Continue To Mount

Caitlin Clark suffered a difficult outing in Portland, as she scored six points in 22 minutes in the Indiana Fever’s 84-100 loss. Her efficiency has taken a hit after head coach Stephanie White introduced changes to the offensive roles. And now, the Iowa native’s name has come up in another unwanted category that might increase her woes.

Clark is not one of the elite defenders in the league, but she is active and smart on both ends of the floor. However, numbers suggest that players have chosen to attack Clark 1v1 to take advantage of her defensive loopholes. A user shared the stats on X and wrote:

“If it’s felt like teams have *really* looked to attack Caitlin Clark 1v1 this year, it’s because they have.”

Caitlin Clark has defended 42 isolation plays thus far, and the second one in that list, Olivia Miles, has faced 19. A stark difference that proves the differential treatment. Fans have questioned head coach White’s ability to protect the superstar guard from such challenges. Given that the team wants her at her best on offense, Steph’s role is crucial to keep the pressure from building on Clark.

Clark played fewer minutes than Sophie Cunningham and Makayla Timpson, who played off the bench. Her playing time steadily dipped quarter by quarter, and fans have berated the HC for not using her enough to win games for the team.

Caitlin Clark seen in heated scuffle with HC Stephanie White

Fans have seen a lot of fire from Caitlin Clark this season, especially towards the officials. However, in the last game against the Fire, the Fever star was seen in a heated conversation, but this time, with her head coach. A user shared a video of an aggressive conversation between the two on X and wrote:

“Thought Steph left her fire in Connecticut!”

Everything doesn’t seem to be fine in the Fever locker room by the looks of it. And that disturbance has surely impacted the team’s performance. Even though the Fire came with a smoldering defense against the Fever, such a brutal loss against an expansion team is bound to sting a team that is looking to make a serious title run this season.
