The 2026 WNBA All-Star game was held at the United Center in Chicago, but it appears the choice for the next game may not necessarily be with the consultation of the players. At least that’s what it seemed like after the comments made by Nneka Ogwumike, the President of the WNBA Players Association.
“I don’t know what the process is. We find out with you guys,” Ogwumike said in response to a question from media after the game.
“So, that’s something that can change maybe. I think also, when we see the growth of these teams, we see the valuation of these teams, maybe we can make bidding a little bit more competitive for All-Star.”
She also made it clear that the players look at Golden State being the right destination for an All-Star game in the near future.
“I do know that, from what I’m hearing from players, they want to see one in Golden State,” Ogwumike continued.
“So, I think that that would be a good place to be, especially with all these expansion teams, giving these cities an opportunity to host people as they enter this league.”
A Successful Outing in Chicago for the WNBA
Few can doubt the success of the 2026 WNBA All-Star game being held in Chicago. The game broke records, with 19,783 fans packing the United Center, the highest ever attendance for the league’s event, showing just how far the game has come.
Team Spoon ultimately beat Team Coop in the highly-anticipated encounter, with Jonquel Jones winning MVP for her near triple-double effort. Jones was aided by the likes of A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark and Allisha Gray as Team Spoon ran out 129-122 winners on a special evening for the WNBA.
