Azzi Fudd’s relationship with former UConn Huskies teammate Paige Bueckers has been one of the leading storylines surrounding her so far in her short professional career. By chance of the WNBA Draft lottery, after being selected first overall, she ended up playing next to her longtime college teammate and girlfriend, Paige Bueckers.

While there have been rumors, none confirmed, that the WNBA players have broken up, the rookie has had nothing but the kindest of words about her teammate recently. After practice on Sunday, she said this about Bueckers:

“She has one of the best court vision of anyone you’ll ever meet… She knows where I’m going to be before I even get there. So to have someone who can one pass ball so incredibly well, but also someone who could know who is going to be where, read the defense super well…”

When asked about the role she thinks she will have with the team’s offense. In particular, she spoke about the possibility of becoming the team’s primary ball handler going forward.  Fudd said that she relishes the opportunity to have a bigger role, but that she doesn’t worry about how the team will work out the handling of the responsibility in the end:

“I think our team is so dynamic and versatile that we will figure it out.”

It took some time for Azzi Fudd to feel at home in the WNBA

According to Azzi Fudd, during her weekend practice interviews, it took some six games for her to process that she was playing in the WNBA. Fudd said she finally felt calm when the Dallas Wings played at the New York Liberty on May 24.

    Here’s what she said:

“I think in New York, was the first time that (the game) slowed down (for me) a little,” Fudd disclosed about getting used to the league. “I definitely felt more calm, more confident. Yeah, but I think each game has slowed down a little bit more and felt a little bit more comfortable.”

She also said that her teammates have all done something that has made her feel at home in the Dallas Wings. Fudd said she was grateful for her teammates going out of her way to make her feel comfortable.
