Azzi Fudd-Paige Bueckers Reunion Labeled “Recipe for Disaster” as Analyst Warns “Lovers Quarrel” Could Blow Wings Up in Harsh Verdict

Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers have reunited in the WNBA after playing together for four years at the University of Connecticut. The two were the core of UConn and also brought a national championship last year. While fans look forward to seeing the two bring the same intensity to the Dallas Wings, radio personality Craig Carton delivered a brutal verdict on their future.

Fudd and Bueckers have been in a relationship since their college days, but it was made official last year by the 2025 WNBA first overall pick. On his show, The Craig Carton Show, the analyst was clear about his thoughts on the couple playing on the Wings squad together. He said:

“I wouldn’t want to play with my girlfriend, hell no, that’s too much. That’s not gonna last, that’s gonna blow the whole team up. One lover’s quarrel, ‘How come I am not getting the ball in the low post anymore? Oh, cause you didn’t make dinner last night?’ You can’t play together and date each other, that’s a recipe for disaster.”

In contrast to the sports analyst’s statement, there have been some examples in the league of players dating and hooping for the same team. One of them is the WNBA legend Diana Taurasi and her wife, Penny Taylor. Both were part of the Phoenix Mercury for a long time, and also won three championships together for the franchise. However, the two kept their relationship a secret until Taylor’s retirement in 2016.

Carton’s skepticism is also not entirely wrong, as a public relationship, along with playing on the same team, can be detrimental to both. Only time will tell how the Wings navigate the superstars’ professional and personal lives.

Paige Bueckers reacts to Azzi Fudd getting picked by the Dallas Wings

After several speculations about Azzi Fudd and her prospects of getting picked top overall by the Dallas Wings, the team decided to pair the two guards once again. On the draft night, Bueckers was also at the event to back her girlfriend on her big day. She was seen happily applauding when the announcer took Fudd’s name.

The Wings look like solid contenders going into the 2026 WNBA season. Arike Ogunbowale and Azzi Fudd will add to the offensive prowess and help space the floor with Bueckers, who will be the primary ball handler. If things go well for the team, they might look for a playoff run after missing the postseason for two consecutive seasons.
