Azzi Fudd and Olivia Miles were the first two players selected in this year’s WNBA draft, and for the rest of this season, they’ll be compared endlessly by fans and analysts alike.
Ahead of a Wings-Lynx Commissioner’s Cup game on Tuesday, Fudd was asked if she had extra motivation to win against Minnesota. The top overall pick responded by saying that she’s excited to go up against the league-leading Lynx.
“This is gonna be a really fun matchup. Because it’s the Commissioner’s Cup, and also because of the last game. They’re a really good team, so I’m looking forward, for sure.”
The first time that the Lynx and the Wings met this season, Miles got the better of Fudd as Minnesota secured a 90-86 win to improve to 2-1. Miles finished with 15 points, six assists, and two rebounds, while Fudd had eight points, one rebound, one steal, and one block off the bench.
Since that May 14 matchup, the Lynx (9-2) and the Wings (7-3) have climbed to the top of the standings. With their respective teams’ undefeated streak in the Commissioner’s Cup on the line, Azzi Fudd and Olivia Miles are expected to go full throttle on Tuesday.

Ahead of the Lynx-Wings game, Azzi Fudd was also asked about Paige Bueckers and her playmaking acumen. Fudd, who won a national title with Bueckers last year, praised her longtime teammate’s skills when it comes to distributing the ball.
“She has some of the best court vision and basketball IQ of anyone that you’ll ever meet… She knows where I’m going to be before I even get there.”
Fudd added that she’s up to the challenge should the coaching staff ask her to embrace more ball-handling duties.
