Azzi Fudd has been under the cosh ever since the Dallas Wings chose her as the 1st pick at the WNBA draft. Many speculated involvement of a personal relationship with Paige Bueckers that influenced this decision. This was downright unacceptable for the former UConn stars. Then many doubted if she has enough talent to go as the number one pick. Matters got worse when she was not in the starting five for the Wings straight away.

People have also criticised head coach Jose Fernandez for picking her as 1st and then not giving her enough game time. On the contrary, Fernandez has not started her yet because he wants her to settle into the team and earn her spot. Despite not starting, Jose Fernandez had Azzi Fudd on the court for 32 minutes. In those 32 minutes, Fudd shone truly like the number one pick.

Azzi Fudd scored 24 points with 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks. She scored 17 of those points in the 3rd quarter tying the secodn most points scored in any single quarter by a WNBA rookie. She has also tied Caitlin Clark for special set of stats.

Azzi Fudd and Caitlin Clark are the only two players in WNBA this season so far who have 10+ 3 pointers, 5+ steals and 5+ blocks. While both players are famous for their offensive capabilities and their shooting, leading the league for combination of these stats show their contribution on the defensive end. It also proves the both players are more complete than they usually get credit for.

NBC falsely credits Azzi Fudd for a record held by Caitlin Clark

After Wings’ commanding win vs the New York Liberty, Azzi Fudd became the center of attention of the league. Her 6 three pointers were the talk of the town. NBC’s WNBA social media page posted a clip of the three pointers and credited Fudd for breaking the record for most 3 pointers by a rookie in a single game.

However, they made a mistake. Caitlin Clark actually holds the record with 7 three pointers which she got in her rookie year vs Mystics. This had many fans fuming as they did not like Fudd being falsely promoted.

Actually, Azzi Fudd did break the rookie record for most three pointers scored in a single game, but the record was for franchise history not WNBA history as a whole. Fudd holds this record for Dallas Wings. Mistakenly not adding this to their caption caused the commotion.
