Caitlin Clark fans were left fuming after NBC Sports’ WNBA page incorrectly claimed that Azzi Fudd had broken the rookie record for most 3-pointers in a game on Sunday against the Liberty. Fudd made six shots from long range on 12 attempts. She tied the record for the second-most 3-pointers in a game by a rookie.
Clark held the record with seven 3-pointers. NBC’s post on Fudd was flagged after X released a community report stating that it was incorrect and that Clark broke the record in June 2024 against the Mystics.
It didn’t take long for the Fever superstar’s fans to call out NBC for its factual error. Many already feel the media takes Clark lightly and downplays her success and impact on the WNBA. The latest incident only poured more gasoline on the fire.
“Because they desperately want to downplay Caitlin’s career,” one fan said.
“WNBA news outlets trying so hard to erase CC is disgusting,” another wrote.
“I’m surprised they didn’t say well it was the most ever 3s by a rookie on a Sunday in May on the road,” one fan added.
Azzi Fudd matches Caitlin Clark’s stats in exclusive club
Azzi Fudd had a slow start to her 2026 WNBA season, but the No. 1 pick is finding her groove after six games. On Sunday, Fudd recorded her breakout game with 24 points on 60.0% shooting. She had three steals and two blocks, too. After that matchup, Fudd became just the second player this season, behind Caitlin Clark, to record more than 10 3-pointers, five steals and five blocks in the 2026 season.
On the season, Clark is averaging a career-high 23.8 points and 9.0 assists on 42.2% field goal shooting and 34.8% from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Fudd is averaging 11.0 ppg, 1.2 spg and 1.0 bpg, shooting 56.3% from the field, 43.5% from 3-point range and 100.0% from the free throw line.
While her 3-point record in Sunday’s game was misreported as the most by a rookie, Fudd being the only player to shoot on 50-40-90 splits is an actual record that nobody has come close to this year. Fudd has a chance to become the third player to finish a season with those splits.
Elena Delle Donna (2019) and Napheesa Collier (2025) are the only other players to achieve that milestone.
