Trinidad Chambliss was among the biggest stories of the 2025 college football season, as he only got the chance to play because Ole Miss QB1 Austin Simmons got injured. Once given the opportunity, there was no going back for the former Ferris State star.
Chambliss took on the starting quarterback role in week 2 and was quick to show off his thrilling football skills, eventually becoming the only SEC player in the past 30 years to throw for over 300 yards while also rushing for 50+ yards in three straight games.
Chambliss was also late to the Ole Miss party as he only joined the Rebels around this time last year, leaving him very little time to adapt to Kiffin’s offense.
Talking about how he recruited Chambliss, Lane Kiffin told Tyrann Matthieu on Wednesday that the former Ferris star was originally planning to go to Temple.
“We saw him actually on Twitter and then got the film, and everybody started getting excited. They brought him to Charlie Weiss, brought him to me, and I just kept watching him. I’m like, man, this guy, I think he had scored 51 touchdowns. I was like, this guy’s just a winner. he just finds a way to make plays man they’re in they’re in the playoffs to win the national championship and he just takes off and runs and makes these plays and i’m like guys i know maybe he’s not as tall as some people want him to be and all that but he’s just a winner and he makes plays and doesn’t matter what level you’re at if you make them you make them.” Kiffin said.
Lane Kiffin Expresses Confidence About Potentially Winning Natty at LSU
Lane Kiffin caught a lot of flak from the college football world after he left Ole Miss just a few days before their playoff matchups.
While most analysts expressed their frustration with Kiffin over the LSU move, others gave him some grace and said he would have a better chance of winning a national title with the Tigers.
During the conversation, Mathieu Kiffin expressed confidence that LSU could win a national championship.
“I don’t know how fast it’s going to happen, but we’re going to win a national championship. We’re going to have the teams and rosters back to the way they played when they were great. I don’t know how fast. It might not be today, but it’s going to happen.”
Kiffin added that he feels that way because of how recruiting is going, too, as he believes the staff knows how to sell LSU perfectly.
