The Texas Tech Red Raiders salvaged a somewhat pedestrian campaign with a 34-14 postseason win over Cal in the Independence Bowl, just enough to give the team a winning record.
Head coach Joey McGuire has a 15-11 record through his first two seasons, but he’ll have to overcome the 40th toughest schedule in the CFN’s Strength of Schedule if he wants to improve that mark.

After opening the season against an in-state FCS program in Abilene Christian, the Red Raiders go on the road to face the Washington State Cougars. It will be the third meeting between the two programs, with Texas Tech winning the last two, 16-7 in 1963 and 28-10 in 1964.
The Red Raiders will host another in-state program in non-conference with North Texas. It will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2001, with Tech winning 42-21 in Denton. The Red Raiders round out their non-conference slate at Arizona State, a team they beat the last time out, 52-45 in 2017.
The Red Raiders open Big 12 play against the Arizona Wildcats and the Cincinnati Bearcats, two relative newcomers to the conference. They then face the Baylor Bears and TCU Horned Frogs, two teams they beat last year.

Three of the final four games on the Texas Tech 2024 football schedule are against teams the Red Raiders didn’t face last season. The Colorado Buffaloes come to Lubbock between difficult road trips to the Iowa State Cyclones and Oklahoma State Cowboys. McGuire’s men wrap up against a West Virginia Mountaineers team they fell to last fall.
