Four-star safety Karnell “Greedy” James is committed to the Texas Longhorns, but other schools are reportedly trying their best to flip him.
James committed to the Longhorns in December, but he sparked speculation about his future while responding to a question about other programs, including Ohio State, Notre Dame and LSU, reportedly working hard to flip him. Instead of shutting them down, James left his commitment in question as he said:
“It’s been insanely hard to separate them,” James said.
According to On3 and Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, James said the three schools mentioned above are pushing for his potential flip.
According to USA Today, James has around 30 offers, with Georgia, Oregon and Florida also in the mix.
Apart from James, Texas also faces the possibility of a flip from five-star wide receiver Easton Royal.
Texas’ 2027 recruiting class is 16th in the nation, but the ranking could take a significant hit if other teams manage to flip even one of these two players.
Steve Sarkisian’s 2027 Texas Roster Deemed “Most Complete” and “Best” by CFB Analyst
Steve Sarkisian will enter another season with championship expectations. Sarkisian’s recruiting over the last few seasons has yielded a unit capable of winning the national championship next year.
CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford believes Texas is “a team that appears capable of checking every box on the national championship checklist in 2026.”
“Start with the most obvious advantage Texas will have over most opponents: quarterback play and skill talent,” Crawford wrote. “Sarkisian has recruited and developed at a level that gives Texas high-end production every season, and now Heisman Trophy frontrunner Arch Manning has another elite athlete to target in Coleman, who joins Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V and others.
This also puts Sarkisian under immense pressure to deliver a national championship. After failing to make the College Football Playoff last time around, the head coach could be on the hotseat in the 2026 season.
