Fans recently expressed their discontent with Iga Swiatek’s physiotherapist and physical conditioning coach, Maciej Ryszczuk, for his comments over the Polish star’s split with coach Wim Fissette following her early round exit at the 2026 Miami Open. Swiatek kicked off her opening round in Miami against world No. 50 Magda Linette with dominance in the first set.
She soon lost control of the match, giving Linette a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 lead. Following the faceoff, Swiatek parted ways with coach Fissette while keeping the rest of her staff unchanged. Physiotherapist Ryszczuk appeared in an interview, where he disclosed the tennis player’s decision, stating she wants to enter her next tournament in Stuttgart with a new coach.
During the Miami Open faceoff, Swiatek’s performance rapidly decreased, which seemed to be a sign of mental collapse rather than tenchnical issues. When asked about several people from the box, including her long-time psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, was shouting instructions than her coach, Ryszczuk clarified that the tennis player herself asked for tips at certain moments during matches.
However, his statements did not land well with the tennis fans, who thought it was an attempt to unfairly blame coach Fissette.
“Funny how this backfired,” a fan wrote. “They really thought that maciej giving this interview would take the heat off the team. Tried to pin it all on Wim just to justify how f**ked team dynamics are… congrats, I guess, Daria will let you keep your job… for now.”
Iga Swiatek Admits To Struggling Mentally During The 2026 Miami Open
Iga Swiatek agreed to face mental struggles during her opening match at the 2026 Miami Open. She highlighted that her mindset needs to improve, as tennis has started to feel confusing for her at the moment. She added that during the match, something went off inside her which led her to play badly.
“Tennis feels complicated in my head. I know it is supposed to be simple. In terms of my mentality and how I feel on court, it is going to take a while. It just was a bad match for me unconsciously, or consciously, it is hard for me to say,” she said.
Iga Swiatek has not won a WTA title since the Korea Open in September 2025. She started coaching under Wim Fissette in 2024, after which she claimed her first Wimbledon title in 2025.
