Jannik Sinner advanced to the Round of 16 at the Miami Open after defeating Corentin Moutet in the third round on Monday. With this victory, Sinner broke Novak Djokovic’s record for the most consecutive sets won at the Masters 1000 level (26).
With a formidable 77.9% win percentage at the ATP Masters 1000 level, the Italian surpassed arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz and matched Roger Federer’s record, while trailing only two other legends (Djokovic and Rafael Nadal) in this stat, with at least 20 matches played as the qualifying threshold.
The World No. 2 is eyeing a rare double in the Sunshine swing, a feat that has been achieved by only 11 players (men’s/women’s) in the past. Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in the BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells last Sunday and is now gunning for reaching the summit clash of the Miami Open on March 29.
Jannik Sinner to Face Alex Michelsen in the Round of 16 in Miami
The Italian will now take on American Alex Michelsen in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open on Tuesday. Sinner has faced Michelsen twice in the past, winning both times. Both their previous meetings were on hard surfaces in 2024.
Both times the Italian dispatched the American in straight sets, first at the Cincinnati Open second round and then in the US Open second round. Sinner will clearly fancy his chances against Michelsen on Tuesday and aim to advance to the quarterfinal in his quest to secure the Sunshine double.
