Victoria Mboko Gives Classy Response to Rumored Doubles Partnership With Serena Williams

Victoria Mboko has responded to the rumors of potentially teaming up with Serena Williams in a doubles matchup at the upcoming Queen’s Club Tournament if Williams’ return becomes official. Mboko responded while standing in a balanced position, highlighting her excitement at seeing the legend return to action while admiring the thought of playing alongside the American legend.

Serena Williams has recently been reported to have requested a wildcard spot to compete at the upcoming grass tournament, a news which has taken the tennis world by storm. Many have speculated that Williams’s choice of the grass court is to make her return easy, especially to get used to the professional after a long hiatus. Her last appearance came in 2022, at the US Open, where she bid farewell to tennis.

To add flavor to the return, Williams’ partner is rumored to be the current Canadian sensation, Victoria Mboko. During her second round post-match Roland Garros conference, Mboko spoke about the possibilities of teaming up with Williams, giving a classy take on who should be the decider:

“I’m very happy. Me and Serena have stayed in touch. Which is really really nice because I really look up to her. The fact that she even knows me is very exciting 😂. I think for me I wanna kinda leave the moment for her. I feel like if she’s ready to come back on her own terms, then I feel like it’s up to her to announce that. Other than that, I don’t have much to say. The moment is all up to her and when she’s ready to come back. It’s up to her.”

At the French Open, Mboko has registered a second-round win against Czech Kateřina Siniaková, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2, and will next take on former Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

Victoria Mboko Talks About Not Letting Distractions Get the Best of Her

Victoria Mboko has sealed her profile within the tennis community as one of the youngest and most disciplined athletes who chooses to decide what is best for her at what time. During the press-conference, Mboko spoke about not letting the highly anticipated Serena Williams team-up distract her focus at the French Open, saying:

“Especially during tournaments, I’m not really on my phone a lot and I’ve had some people ask me, but I was kinda focused for today, so I’m not really looking at the socials because I just wanna relax a little bit,” she said (4:29).

Mboko is currently in the hunt for her maiden Grand Slam title, while her soon-to-be partner Serena Williams has a whopping 23 in her bag.
