Venus Williams met her future husband, Andrea Preti, just 10 days before she learned that she needed to undergo a major surgery to get relief from battling uterine fibroids and a focal adenomyoma. The doctors advised her to get a myomectomy surgery to remove fibroids and the adenomyoma from her uterus.
In the latest podcast with Serena Williams, Venus recalled the time when Preti supported her while she was thinking about giving up.
“I was going through a tough time when I met him,” Venus said. “I had just found out that I needed kind of a major surgery on my uterus. And he really supported me. Ten days after we met, you know, and I was so scared. I didn’t want to scare you guys. He was never afraid. And I just wanted to give up at one point, you know, because I got a lot of bad news.”
At the same time, the tennis legend was fired from her internship in addition to the requirement of surgery, leaving her terribly upset. During this time, Preti offered his support.
“I just kind of fell off the map. I didn’t mean to,” Venus added. “Like, what am I going to do, sit and cry? And then we were talking, and he asked me how the doctor’s visit went. And even though we had just met, at the end of the conversation it was so natural.”
As Venus was recalling the said events, both Williams sisters got emotional.
Venus Williams and Andrea Preti Tied the Knot
From supporting Venus Williams at her lowest time when the diagnosis and surgery happened, even though he just met her few days ago, Andrea Preti made a big move in their relationship this year.
In July 2024, she underwent a myomectomy. During her recovery, Preti supported her throughout. Earlier this year, the couple got engaged in January 2025. They tied the knot twice, first in September in Italy, and the second time in Palm Beach, Florida, in December.
Venus also credits Preti a lot for making a return to competitive tennis last year. After a 16-month hiatus, the five-time Wimbledon champion played for the first time on the WTA Tour at the DC Open.
