“Black Men Been Calling Them Ugly For Years” – Serena Williams & Venus Williams Defended By Fans After Public Appearance With Husbands Sparks Outrage

Tennis icons Serena Williams and Venus Williams recently stepped out in New York with their husbands during a star-studded pre–Met Gala weekend.

Serena was with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, a Reddit co-founder, who shares two daughters with the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Serena wore a sculptural designer minidress, while Ohanian opted for a black suit paired with sneakers. Meanwhile, Venus was with Andrea Preti, with whom she married last year and is an actor by profession. Venus debuted a bold new bob hairstyle with a pastel outfit.

Both Williams sisters have married white men and it became a subject of interest on the internet. Some fans mocked the Williams sisters for their husbands’ race.

“BLACK POWER and white husbands, HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!” one fan wrote.

“So, 2 prominent BLACK athletes didnt marry Ngrs..what?? Why not?..why do successful blacks marry any other race than their own??..oh wait, thats because they know that Ngrs dont pay the bills or stick around..just ask all bla k female rapers..” another commented.

The Williams sisters were defended by their fans against such offensive remarks regarding race of them and their respective husbands.

“Black men have been calling them ugly and masculine for years now it’s an issue that they married outside their race. When Serene dated drake, yall literally foamed at the mouth for months because ‘he was too good for her’. Leave them alone man,” one fan commented.

“Are we really going to act like black men were knocking down these women doors? They were not only athletic but darkskin which is like a sin to a large portion of black folks,” another fan wrote.

“The hate Serena is getting online is concerning 😭🤦🏾‍♂️” one fan added.

“Love seeing this. They found men almost to their level. I’m sure the men would agree they dated up too. 😅 💕” one fan commented.

“This makes me sad. The racism they suffered was so brutal 😰” one fan said.

“I’m so happy for the sisters – they found love,” one fan reacted.

Venus Williams Serving Co-Chair at 2026 Met Gala

Venus Williams wanted to play in the Italian Open and she even got an entry as a wildcard, but she opted to skip for other obligations. Now, it seems she skipped the WTA tournament to serve as co-chair at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4. She became the third tennis legend to co-chair the Met Gala.

Previously, Roger Federer became the first male tennis star to be named as a celebrity co-chair at the 2023 Met Gala. Serena Williams co-chaired in 2019.

The 2026 Met Gala will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The theme of the event is “Costume Art” with a “Fashion Is Art” dress code.
