23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has been actively promoting the use of GLP-1 weight-loss pharmaceuticals and has said that their use in recent times has helped her achieve a better physique, improved joint mobility, and healthy body vitals. With GLP-1, Williams has lost almost 34 lbs over the past year.
Now, Williams has appeared in her first-ever Super Bowl ad for ‘Ro,’ a telehealth company that helps patients get better diagnoses and access medical care, especially GLP-1s. Williams became a patient ambassador for the company and shot her maiden ad campaign for them, which aired on digital and TV platforms during the ongoing Super Bowl LX.
The company has launched a new national campaign, “Healthier on Ro,” to market its GLP-1 weight-loss drugs better, and Williams, an active user of the same, was chosen as the campaign’s face. Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is one of the investors in the company, and serves on its board.
In the advertisement, the 44-year-old is seen wearing a monochromatic outfit and white tennis shoes. Williams dances, showcasing the ease in her body movements while exclaiming she was “moving better” and “feeling better” due to the GLP-1 medication from Ro.
This was not the first time Williams had been associated with the Super Bowl; previously, she made a surprise cameo during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show at Super Bowl LIX.
Serena Williams Shared Her Health Journey Since Taking GLP-1s
On January 28, Williams stopped by the TODAY.com studio to announce her Super Bowl ad with healthcare company Ro. During a deep conversation with the host of the morning show, the tennis legend shared her health journey and what she saw change in herself since starting the GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.
“My blood sugar is better. I was able to lower my cholesterol by 30%. Some of these numbers [previous high cholesterol levels] are from when I was literally winning Grand Slams. It wasn’t, like, just playing tennis. I was dominating. I was at risk for heart disease, and I didn’t even know. … That’s scary,” Williams said.
“GLP-1s changed my life for the better. It’s more about … not even the weight loss, but it’s about longevity. I started doing more Pilates. I always did that before as well. I love running, and I never thought I would keep running, but I love it now. I’m lighter, not physically, but just mentally. I think having more energy, I just feel happier,” she added.
The tennis legend had tried different ways to reduce her weight since retiring from the sport. Still, nothing helped until about a year ago, when she started taking GLP-1s and is now rejoicing in exercising daily, focusing on her tasks well, and leading a healthier life.
